Is DCE a Support Environment for ODP?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) is a distributed environment for the development and execution of distributed applications. This paper assesses DCE’s suitability as a support environment for open distributed processing by evaluating it against the general requirements and specific architecture defined by the ISO/CCITT Basic Reference Model for Open Distributed Processing (RM-ODP). The results indicate that DCE is not conformant with RM-ODP, and thus cannot be considered as a support environment for ODP. However, DCE delivers proven technologies for many aspects of distributed processing.

Supporting Continuous Media in Open Distributed Systems Architectures
Recent developments in high-speed networks and highperformance workstations have led to the emergence of a new class of applications termed distributed multimedia applications. However, the range of distributed systems architectures currently being proposed to support open systems integration were largely conceived prior to these developments. Initial work directed towards the introduction of m...

Service interaction in open distributed processing (ODP) environments is diicult to visualize. Interaction often takes place asynchronously and new participants can join the system at any time. If errors are apparent in an interaction, debugging usually takes place through each service involved in the exchange. When peer-to-peer systems involve more than a couple of parties, this technique is o...

The aim of this document is to survey current work in distributed systems architectures with special emphasis on integrative standards. Two architectures will be considered in detail. The first is ANSAware [APM,93b] which is an implementation of the ANSA (Advanced Networked Systems Architecture) reference model from APM and which has contributed to ISO standards for Open Distributed Processing ...

Significant advances have been made in recent years in tackling the problem of heterogeneity in distributed systems with ISOl ITU-T standards for a Reference Model for Open Distributed Processing (RM-ODP) now approaching international agreement. It is important, however, that such standards and related technologies are responsive to new developments in computer and communications technologies. ...
